Well folks, it is official, this time last year I published my first blog post: The inspiration behind, apple talk, and an applelicious tofu entree. Happy Valentine’s Day!

I hope you all had a day full of love for yourself and those closest to you. Tonight, Steve and I will be celebrating at Wine Tasting Tuesdays at Ten Tables JP. Four courses and four wine pairings for $42. Can’t wait to share with you all the delicious food and wine we indulge in!

Over the weekend, I displayed my love for the art of cooking by attending a Knive Skills cooking class at Artepicure Cooking School hosted by the Massachusetts Dietetic Association. My friend Michelle and I ventured to Somerville together to improve upon our non-existent knive skills.

Enter Artepicure. Owner Mark DesLauriers uses his very own kitchen in his loft apartment to host cooking classes. I could not imagine eating in this charming kitchen on a daily basis!

Portland, Maine

Last weekend I had a four day weekend. 1.2.3.4 days. It was absolutely lovely. Since I knew I’d have more free time to spare than usual, I asked Steve to join me on a day trip to Portland, Maine. I’d only been to Maine once before in my life when I was 13 and with my family in Bar Harbor. It wasn’t our typical beach vacation, and being the typical teenager I was, I could not appreciate the national parks and beautiful nature that surrounded us.

10 years later, I was ready to give Maine a second chance. I had heard of Portland Maine being a cute port town and as I researched more about it, I discovered all there was to explore. Steve makes portobello mushroom sandwiches

Ever since Steve and I moved in together, he has been trying to make an appearance on my blog. Whether his motives were to showcase his culinary creations or to prove that I am not the only one who cooks in this apartment, either way he has been auditioning to appear on my blog. And ladies and gentlemen, he finally made the cut.

Ringing in the New Year with lentils

With the start of a new year, I thought it would only be fitting to start it off right with a couple of new recipes.

Enter: lentils.

On Sunday, I flipped through Heidi Swanson’s Super Natural Cooking book to find a hearty soup recipe.

What I found was a recipe for Chunky Lentil Soup with a description that was impossible to ignore. “As we need more warmth and sustenance in our food, this earthy textured pot of lentils, squash, and tomatoes is a straightforward and unassuming way to fit the bill.”

Warmth and sustenance. I’m sold.
