What The Foodie Dietitian Ate Wednesday #16

Ever wonder what a dietitian eats? Tune in every Wednesday to find out What The Foodie Dietitian Ate Wednesday (#WTFDAW) for recipe and meal planning inspiration, and well, to learn that RDs are human too!

TGIW! I mean we are half way to the weekend… #silverlining

This WTFDAW series is meant to inspire you with meal planning and recipes to try but more than that, I want to bring the reality to life of what a dietitian really eats during the day. I feel like people hear “dietitian” and automatically think we’re these super health food nut jobs who only eat salads and nuts and seeds all day. I do eat salads and nuts and seeds, but certainly not all day long and I also like to eat chocolate and pizza and drink beer. Because I’m human. And because the road to health and happiness is not about perfection and idealistic unattainable standards, it’s a journey. Meaning you’ll have days that are better than others and it’s critical that you don’t beat yourself up for the days that are less than perfect and you simply make better choices the next day. Let’s all remember that food is more than just nutrition. It’s celebration. It’s love. So let’s freaking enjoy it!

Why the soap box?

Well, I’ve been feeling some pressure to highlight really delicious, ultra healthy eats on Wednesdays and am a little embarrassed if I have a Wednesday where I eat out for more than one meal. It’s certainly not the norm, but it happens. Like when your city gets hit with not one, but two blizzards in a week and you find your refrigerator void of groceries.

Yes, this was my day yesterday. It wasn’t perfect but nothing is. And I’m not going to feel ashamed or embarrassed. I’m embracing it and hopefully you’ll embrace your own journey to health too – the ups and the downs. #RDkeepinitreal

And because we were celebrating my engagement (they got me the CUTEST stemless champagne glasses that say Mr. and Mrs. on them! And a bottle of bubbly to use the glasses with ;)), the waitress brought us over some champagne on the house to toast with!

Yes, we are wearing friendship bracelets. No, you should not judge us. They loved the peace and believe leather bracelets I found at this small boutique in Buffalo, NY so when I was back in the hometown over Christmas, I made sure to stop by and grab a a couple for them 🙂

Hope your Wednesday is filled with delicious eats. What’s on the menu for today?

  1. No judgment here, even if you didn’t eat healthy, which you did. Those bracelets are pretty, I like that you shared them with your friends. Very sweet!

  2. #RDkeepinitreal should be a new trend! If I had $1 every time someone told me to not judge them/verbally judged me (for making “good” or “bad” choices)/ or ….. I wouldn’t be a poor student. Where has all this shame come from? and how on earth can we beat it out of people?

    • Right!! I get that too – the “don’t judge me”. When did RDs become these shaming professionals? I don’t judge as a RD. I don’t judge as a human being. Not sure where it’s coming from either but it’s gotta stop.

  3. It’s great that you are being honest because so many people believe dietitians like us only eat healthy foods so of course we can’t relate to the average individual. I am inspired by your Wednesday posts to do something similar on my blog. Being human is inevitable! 🙂

  4. Thank you for embracing dietitians + being human! All of those eats look amazing and now I’m craving a melty sandwich!! Stay warm!

  5. Love these posts. That pizza looks amazing! I hope the blizzard conditions in your area let up soon.
