Edamame Hummus

Trader Joes Edamame Hummus and I have had a serious love affair for the past year. By love affair I mean I buy it every single time I shop at TJ’s which is usually about once a week. Seriously, every time. No exceptions. The weird thing is I was convinced I would have gotten sick of it by now. That, or I would have turned into an edamame. Neither of which have yet happened. Odd.

Despite my true love for Edamame Hummus, I have never attempted to make it at home. Moreover, I have never made any hummus homemade before! It is something that has been on my culinary to-do list for a while now.

This month’s Recipe Redux theme is Dressing For Success: condiments, spreads, & salad dressings. Hummus is one of my favorite spreads. Surprisingly, not too many people even know what hummus is. Hummus is a bean spread made of garbanzo beans and tahini. Makes for a great dip for veggies!

The Recipe Redux inspired me to buy the one thing that was holding me back from making hummus at home…a food processor, an essential kitchen tool.

Edamame Hummus

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cup shelled edamame
  • 1/4 cup tahini
  • 1/4 cup water
  • Juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/4 tsp cumin
  • Salt and Pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Puree all ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
  2. Spread on pitas, rice cakes, crackers. Or, use it as a condiment on a sandwich. Edamame hummus would taste great on a grilled veggie sandwich.

  1. This looks delicious! I made hummus for the first time this summer. Like to, I was surprised by how easy it is to make. Love your version with edamame. Yum!

  2. yum! that dip tempts me every time i go to TJs but i never tried it! i’m surprised you didn’t add chickpeas but this looks delicious. food processors are essential. next on my wish list: espresso machine and vitamix!

  3. I recently bought a food processor, too. Can’t believe I went so long without one. Excited to try this recipe!

  4. Awesome you finally bought a food processor! Definitely an essential kitchen tool :) You’ve reminded me how much I like TJ’s edamame hummus!

  5. You will NOT be sorry you invested in a food processor. I seldom buy hummus myself, but like you, eat it most every week. It’s just so easy to make. But I can’t wait to try your edamame version… I’ve always been a trad’l chickpea eater.

Hint: next best thing a food processor is for – pizza dough!

  6. I’m a Trader Joe’s freak but never have bought this – and now I don’t need to! Love the twist on hummus and such a pretty color. This is one I’ll be making with my 4 yr daughter for sure.
