Hey ya’ll!

Remember last year when I traveled to beautiful Bar Harbor, Maine to tour the Wild Blueberry barrens and got up-close-and-personal with these special little antioxidant-packed berries?

Well, ever since then I’ve been crushing on wild bluebz like it’s my job. Do you remember my award-winning Wild Blueberry basil cheesecake smoothie that I made during the smoothie competition at Blog The Barrens? It was that smoothie competition that got me here today, partnering with the amazing folks at the Wild Blueberry Association of North America to kick off an AWESOME smoothie recipe contest for fellow registered dietitian and/or food and healthy living bloggers.

When I first heard about the smoothie contest, I thought, smoothies in the winter?! Don’t most people turn to smoothies in the summer? But I was fascinated to learn that it’s quite the opposite. According to Google, smoothie recipe searches are highest in the winter months from January – March because everyone is trying to get their healthy on in the new year. Makes total sense to me now! If you’re a blogger, you know how important it is to deliver timely recipes that your readers/followers will be interested in. So, let’s get to smoothie making, shall we?!

Wild Blueberry Immune-Boosting Tropical Smoothie

I love using Wild Blueberries in smoothies because they are packed with 2x the antioxidants of regular, cultivated blueberries, they boast a ton of flavor (think tart & sweet), and 99% of the wild blueberry crop is frozen to help keep your smoothies extra cold. Plus, they are so versatile – there’s practically nothing that wild blueberries don’t blend well with.

The Wild Your Smoothie Recipe Contest starts this week and runs through March 1. Not only does the contest help you create timely content for your readers and help you connect with fellow bloggers, you also have the chance to win some pretty AMAZING prizes:

  • Grand prize winner receives $1,000 cash AND an all-expense paid trip to Bar Harbor, Maine for the Blog the Barrens event in August.
  • Two runners-up will receive $750 cash.

Whether or not you’re a blogger, we can all get behind some delicious smoothie making. Wild Blueberry Immune-Boosting Tropical Smoothie

This smoothie packs in antioxidant-boasting frozen Wild Blueberries, vitamin C-packed oranges, frozen pineapple, fresh grated ginger which I just love for its warming and soothing properties, and coconut water, which helps replenish your electrolytes. It’s the perfect smoothie for this time of year to boost your immune system to help keep colds and the flu at bay. It’s refreshing and sweet with just a hint of spicy.

  1. I am lucky enough to live very close to wild blueberry barrens! It is strange to think of the cold winter months as a good time to have a smoothie but if you think about it winter is citrus season and every fruit must have its time in the seasonal spotlight! I’ve been eating oranges like there’s no tomorrow! My most recent recipe an Orange Creamsicle smoothie. http://oatandsesame.com/2016/01/orange-creamsicle-smoothie-recipe/
